Having problems accessing our site with AOL?
We're here to help!

1. I'm trying to view the site with my AOL brow
ser and it's not working. What should I do?
Danni's Hard Drive is a sophisticated website that relies on a number of layered technologies, of which JavaScript is an important component. Unfortunately, AOL's built-in browser has a number of problems processing JavaScript code. Therefore, we suggest that users connecting to the Internet via AOL use a browser other than AOL's built-in browser, such as Netscape's Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer, to access our site.

To download a new browser follow these 5 simple steps:

  • Step One: Download & Install
As stated above, either Netscape's Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer will work with our site. We suggest downloading the newest version available for your operating system (Windows, Mac, Unix, et al). Use the links below to connect to either the Netscape or Internet Explorer site:

    Netscape
    MS Internet Explorer

Once you've downloaded one of these browsers, follow the instructions for installation. Both sites provide help pages. At some point you will be asked to restart your computer.

  • Step Two: Connect to the Internet Via AOL
After you have finished installing a new browser, you will need to reconnect to the internet. As an AOL user, you should be familiar with connecting via AOL. After you've connected, you should see a window that looks something like this:

  • Step Three: Minimize the AOL window
Once you're connected to AOL -- STOP! Do not enter AOL by clicking on anything. Instead, simply minimize the window by clicking on this tab:

This will remove the AOL window from your view. Don't worry: you're still connected to the Internet. Do not click the "X". Doing so, will disconnect you from the Internet.

  • Step Four: Launch your new browser
After you minimize the AOL window, you can then launch your new browser -- either Netscape or Microsoft. If you were successful in step one, you should have a shortcut for one of these browsers on your desktop. Double-click that icon now.

  • Step Five: Using your new browser, go to www.danni.com
Now that you have your new browser running, simply type in www.danni.com in the Address field and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

2. I tried using another browser but it's not working. What else can I do?
If you are limited to using AOL and are having trouble viewing the site with your AOL browser, please try the following solutions:

First, make sure you have upgraded to the latest version of the AOL software available for your operating system.

Next, adjust your graphics settings:

  • AOL 6.0 and earlier:
Click on the yellow My AOL icon at the top of your screen. Select preferences from the menu, and then click on the graphics button in the new window that comes up. In the window entitled, "Graphics Viewing Preferences" make the following changes:

Maximum disk space for online art: 40 or 50 megabytes

Display image files on download (checked)

    JPEG compression quality: 100

When you are finished there, click on the WWW icon (same preferences screen), then select the "Web Graphics" tab and make sure the compressed images box is NOT checked.
  • AOL 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0:
First, click on Settings, the Preferences, then Internet Properties (WWW), then Web Graphics. Make sure you select "Never Compress Graphics" and click Apply or OK to fully enable this setting.

Second, under Preferences as well, select Font, Text, and Graphics Preferences and make the following change:
Maximum disk space for online art: 40 or 50 megabytes

Third, under Preferences again, select Download and make any changes you feel appropriate to your system. Make sure you check off "Automatically display images when I download them." You must click Save to retain these settings.

Fourth, you will need to make some changes in the Security section. This can be found (you guessed it!) under Preferences then Internet Properties (WWW) then Security. Click Custom Level and make the following changes:

Under Cookies:
Select Enable for Allow cookies that are stored on your computer and Allow per session cookies (not stored.) Click OK to fully enable these.

Under Downloads:
Select Enable for File Download and Font Download. Click OK to fully enable these.

Under Scripting:
Select Enable for Active Scripting, Allow paste operations via script, Scripting of Java applets. Click OK to fully enable these.

Fifth, make sure your Java options are enabled: Click Settings, then Preferences, then Internet Properties (WWW), then Security, then Custom Level, then Enable: Allow Scripting, Allow paste operations via Script, and Scripting of Java Applets. You may also need to adjust the safety level of your Java Permissions.

Sixth, delete your Temporary Internet Files and clear your History: Click on Settings in the toolbar at the top of the browser window, then click Preferences, then click Internet Properties (WWW), then select the Delete Temporary Internet files and Clear History options.
